During Reading Strategies

As surprising as it may seem to a "good reader" like yourself, many students do not know that they are supposed to be thinking while they are reading. There are students who can read a passage out loud fluently, but won't have an answer when you ask, "So what was that paragraph saying?" For these students (and any others who struggle with comprehension), it is important that they have some way of recording their responses to the text as they are reading it, as well as a way to organize these thoughts. This can be accomplished by teacher modeling, as well as by working with their peers. These strategies will help your students become more thoughtful readers.
